Velvet is available from October onwards. Forward orders are welcome. Velvet is removed under the National Velvet Accreditation Scheme guidelines using local anesthetic and mechanical restraint. Velvet accreditation number 0604. Our velvet is drug free. To order by the grading guidelines we use, refer to the velvet page.

Embryos are also available. Choose from 140 pure English Hinds mated to your selection of stags in the 1999 breeding season. Premier Deer Farm is the only approved Artificial Breeding Centre for Red Deer in Australia an we are ready to export. We believe that the genetic quality of hinds used in our breeding program is equally as important as the quality of the stag. Our genetic improvement has been made through the use of embryos and semen, to give us the largest herd of pure English deer in Australia.

Breeding philosophy.
Over the years we have based our selection of breeding animals on visual appraisal and production performance. There have been some magnificently bred animals "on paper" that have been sold for slaughter. Production has to be the criteria. We found after importing large numbers of deer from New Zealand that the best producing deer were from English Park deer. We decided that the best way to improve our herd was to embark on a program of Artificial Insemination and Embryos.

We used embryos to develop a large pure English base, and since then we have been doing large AI programs to improve upon the embryos produced. We are continuing to improve upon what we have. This year we performed an AI program using 140 hinds and 4 different sires, [One a pure Woburn].

We also perform contract AI work using our hinds and semen supplied by purchasers. Purchasers will take delivery of preg tested in calf hinds.
